The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued a warning on March 16, 2011, following the Fukushima Powerplant meltdown, that everyone within the 50m radius (80.5 km) should be evacuated.
I got curious and started looking online if Bataan is actually a safe place. I came across one wordpress post who made this map, showing majority of NCR, Region 3 and a portion of Region 4-A possibly affected if a nuclear meltdown theoretically happens. According to the post that's around 20 million filipinos who might need to evacuate immediately.
With that in mind, is it safe to open the BNPP, even if we're theoretically run by a government that's incredibly knowledgable in their field and department? If not, where in the country is it safe to operate a nuclear power plant?
Note: I don't recommend depending on wordpress blogs or articles for doing your research (even if its led by sheer curiosity). It just so happens that this is the only article I've found of anyone applying the emergency planning zones to the BNPP.

my main issue is the level of incompetence & corruption that's endemic in PH bulokcracy plagued by nepotism, palakasan, connections, political appointees, etc.
they can't even run our airport properly, provide licenses & plates, prevent unseaworthy tanker from sailing, respond to the oil spill, respond to the oil spill disaster, etc.
given our bulokcracy's track record, the nuclear power plant & its hazardous radioactive wastes will just be disasters in waiting.
Agree. Masyadong stigmatized ang nuclear power as a source for generating electricity just because of the word "nuclear". Di need ng malaking area for wind/solar farm, di need na magdisrupt ng ecosystem creating a dam for hydroelectric.
Sadly tho, napakaluma and aged na ng specs and safety measure ang ginamit for the Bataan Plant. Making it adhere to modern standards would probably cost a fortune similar to just plain rebuilding a new one.
Napakabasura pa ng bidding system natin for contractualization ng building and etc. Disaster waiting to happen lang kalalabasan.
