LOOK: FINALLY, #ASTRAZENECA VACCINE ARRIVES IN PH
More than 487,000 doses of AstraZeneca touched down in Manila Thursday night, March 4, via a KLM flight from Belgium.
The shipment, which was delayed for 3 days, is part of the first batch of doses from the global vaccine-sharing initiative COVAX Facility. Developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, the viral vector vaccine - also known as AZD1222 - requires two doses and can be stored in normal refrigerator temperatures or 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.
The WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) has issued interim recommendations for use of Aztrazenica, which has an efficacy of 63.09% against symptomatic COVID-19 infection. Longer dose intervals within the 8 to 12 weeks range are associated with greater vaccine efficacy.
AztraZeneca’s arrival brings the country’s number of COVID-19 vaccine doses to more than a million.
